National Citizen Service (NCS) Programme


The Sheffield United Community Foundation are an established provider of the “National Citizen Service (NCS)” programme. The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a flagship policy at the heart of the Government’s vision for building a big society. NCS brings together 16-17 year olds from different backgrounds in a programme of challenge, service and learning, enabling them to develop the confidence, skills and attitudes they need to become more engaged with their communities and become active and responsible citizens whilst having an amazing and enjoyable time on the fun and action packed programme.

We have ran the NCS programme 10 times since the summer of 2012 and will be running NCS again in Summer of 2016. It involves fun and challenging activities, away from home residential experiences and a self designed social action project through Sheffield United Community Foundation.

Summer Model Outline (Start dates: 4th July 2016, 11th July 2016, 18th July 2016, 25th July 2016, 1st August 2016, 8th August)

Induction - Meeting the staff and your new NCS team mates, collecting your NCS kit, getting all the info you need and that final chance for any questions!

Away residential (5 days) - 4 days away from home on a full time residential programme with a focus on teamwork and outdoor physical challenges, games and adventures. Activities such as: Watersports, Gorge Scrambling, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, etc. 

Home Skill Development and Social Action Planning (5 days)
5 days living in student accommodation, planning for your social action project, developing independence by managing your own food budget for the week and having your own flat to maintain. With a focus on developing new skills for work and life. Activities include sports leadership qual, 1st aid training, business and enterprise training. Evening activities include: Come dine with me, the Apprentice, student led activities night.

Social Action Project (30 hours - Sheffield)
Participants to design and deliver a Social Action Project that will help benefit the community and make better place to be. Project is student led and supported by NCS staff. Particpants can complete around their own commitments.
