Inspiring Your Future Through Sport
Your Club Your Community

Sheffield United Community Foundation’s Coach Academy

What’s involved?

The Coaches Academy programme is a voluntary role which provides those who aspire to be coaches and/or PE teachers with valuable coaching experience in primary school curriculum and extra-curricular sessions.

You will work alongside fully qualified and highly experienced Community Coaches who will support you throughout your time on Coach Academy. As you progress through the programme you will develop the necessary skills to plan, organise, deliver and evaluate a variety of sessions.

We ask that Coaches give their full commitment to the programme in order to gain full benefit from the programme whilst enabling us to offer a professional service to our customers. Coaches are required to act professionally throughout the duration of their time on Coach Academy. The number of hours per week you wish to volunteer on the programme will be decided between the Sheffield United Community Foundation and yourself and can be as little as 1 hour per week.

You will be given regular one to one feedback on your development with a final appraisal at the end of the academic year.

The benefits:

-          You will be working in a professional environment on behalf of Sheffield United Community Foundation, the club’s charitable community programme.

-          You will gain valuable experience through working with fully qualified, knowledgeable and experienced coaches.

-          At the end of your placement and on the basis of satisfactory performance you will be given a letter of recommendation for you to use on your CV and we will also provide employees with references on request.

-          You will be able to attend regular in-service training days with staff at Sheffield United Community Foundation.

-          After 30 hours of volunteering with Sheffield United Community Foundation you will be eligible for a bursary towards a coaching qualification.

We are extremely proud of the Coach Academy as it offers people a great opportunity to acquire experience in a working environment. There are also opportunities for progression with some of our paid coaches having started on this volunteer programme.
