Inspiring Your Future Through Sport
Your Club Your Community

    On the road with DSActive

Girls and boys aged between 5 and 14 from Sheffield United’s Down’s Syndrome football team have been enjoying football sessions at the Club’s Academy since October 2011. A number of regular faces have been joined by some new recruits who turn up every week to take part in these fun sessions.

All their hard work was recently rewarded when the team was invited to take part in two exciting events, which gave them a great opportunity to wear The Blades colours for the very first time!.

The team’s inaugural event was at Milton Keynes, where the DSActive team were invited to the MK Dons training ground. The team was able to take part in a fun training session followed by a mini tournament organised by the community staff at MK Dons. The players were then invited to watch Sheffield United take on MK Dons at the StadiumMK in an exciting encounter and for many of the players the first experience of a league game.

To add to the excitement, the players were able to take part in a half time parade, proudly wearing the red and white stripes as they walked around the pitch to rapturous applause. All the children had a great time and were a credit to the club.

The following week the team took to the road once again to take part in the annual DSActive Festival which this year was hosted by West Bromwich Albion. It was a fun packed day with games, challenging football sessions and mini tournaments. Despite the horrendous weather the day was a big success and most importantly filled with laughter and smiles. All the players who took part in the day had a fantastic time and are looking forward to our next event.

The United Initiative would like to extend massive thanks Access Credit Management who are currently sponsoring our DS Active programme as well as everyone involved in these events including the host clubs, coaches, families, friends and of course the players!
