Over the past 12 weeks our young Trainees Louis, Adam and Zak have been completing their Groundsman Traineeship at Handsworth Junior Sporting Club. They have learnt the basics of what it takes to become a Groundsman and gained experience in a variety of tasks such as maintaining grass and FIFA standard synthetic pitches.
Louis, one of our Groundsman Trainees, said: ” I want to thank Steve and Paul (Head Groundsman) for everything they have done for me, not only have I learned new skills, I have progressed so much as a person, and that is down to Steve, Paul and Joe.
“The groundsman Traineeship has been the best 12 weeks I have ever had in education and I can’t recommend this programme enough”
Steve Holmes, Handsworth FC’s Vice Chairman, couldn’t give enough praise to the effort and application shown by our Trainees. Steve said: “The lads have been fantastic as soon as they walked through the gates and we have been delighted to play a part in their development and readiness for work.
“We have seen them grow in confidence week in week out, and it’s been a pleasure to have them round the club and we will definitely be looking to keep them around.”
Finally, Joes Simpson, Traineeship Officer, said: “The lads now have a great understanding of basic groundsman skills due to the experience they have been given and hopefully they can use these to go and progress into employment.
“Steve and the team down at Handsworth are reaping the rewards for taking the lads on and I can’t thank him enough for what he’s done for them, he has developed them as young people as well as groundsmen and I’m sure the lads will draw back on this experience to help them move forward.”
