Lifelong Blades fan Laurence, is an 89-year-old care home resident at Greenacres Grange, Worksop.
Ahead of the Blades’ eagerly awaited first match since lockdown, Sheffield United Community Foundation gifted a new Sheffield United shirt to Laurence. Delivered by hand by one of our team members, Laurence was utterly delighted with the surprise.
Laurence’s story came to light when he struck up an unlikely friendship with 13-year-old Doncaster Rovers fan Millie. During Covid19 lockdown, Millie and Laurence have shared their love of all things football with Greenacres Grange’s Adopt a Grandparent Scheme.
Laurence was delighted with his shirt and said, ‘Fan-bloody-tastic!’.
The Home Manager, Joanne Layden said: “Laurence was so pleased with his shirt. He cannot wait for the return of football! It is such a privilege to support Laurence to continue to celebrate football. Our Adopt A Grandparent scheme and this gift from Sheffield United Community Foundation has created some very special memories for him.”
It has been a privilege for Sheffield United Community Foundation to bring some cheer to Laurence during these very difficult times.
Enjoy the game Laurence, Up the Blades!
