By September 15, 2020News

Football & Education Academy student Joseph Bacon earned a call up to train with the Sheffield United U18’s Academy team and will continue to train with the squad over the coming weeks.

Joseph joined the Sheffield United Community Foundation Football & Education Academy this September and has been studying and training with us for the last couple of weeks.

We caught up with Joseph about his first few weeks with the Football & Education Academy and the opportunity he had to train with the Sheffield United U18 team.

Interview with Football & Education Academy Student Joseph Bacon:

When did you first hear of the chance to train with the under 18s?

I heard from Ryan Laight (Head of Football & Recruitment) in my first week at the Foundation’s Football & Education Academy with the chance to train with the SUFC under 18’s team and I was absolutely buzzing to get the chance to train with a Premier League club.

How was the experience of training in a professional setting?

A lot more intense and I had to work a lot harder than usual but i was straight on it for the opportunity. The professional setting was class and couldn’t have asked to be treated any better than how I was on my first week with both Sheffield United and the Foundation.

How would you describe your first two weeks on the programme and the opportunities you’ve gained?

The opportunities that I have gained have exceeded what I expected them to be in the first two weeks and the programme is top class. The programme is full of great lads and the staff treat you how you should be couldn’t ask for anything better from the Community Foundation.
