Jake’s Traineeship Journey

By January 14, 2022News

Jake’s journey began in March 2021, joining the Foundation’s Traineeship Programme to gain some vital work experience as a Groundsman at Handsworth Junior Sporting Club.

Over the 12 weeks, Jake developed a vast amount of skill through his desire and readiness to take on the challenges set to him. His positive mindset and work ethic made him a role model among other trainees and a real testament to what hard work and effort can achieve.

Jake had this to say, “I believe the Traineeship Programme is a great opportunity for people to learn more about the working life, as well as gaining necessary knowledge of how to gain and sustain in employment.”

“I Joined the Traineeship not understanding much about work, and I didn’t have many qualifications. I have now left with Functional Skills in English and Maths, a First Aid Certificate and a more in-depth understanding of the job role I want to start my career in.”

Jake achieved some fantastic work and upon completion of the programme, gained employment through the government’s Kickstart scheme as a Groundsman at Handsworth Junior Sporting Club.

Steve Holmes, Vice Chairman of HJSC, said “Jake has shown great determination and initiative to move from his Traineeship to the Kickstart program.”

“The Traineeship Programme allowed him to take his first steps into a working environment and try out new skills and improve his confidence in his abilities.”

“We are hopeful that Jake will continue to progress his skills and confidence to continue onto the next stage of his professional career. Without the Traineeship Programme none of his development and progression would have been possible.”

Jos Simpson, Employability Officer said, “Jake’s hard work this past year hasn’t gone unnoticed. For Jake to progress into the Kickstart role with Steve at Handsworth shows what hard work and commitment can achieve and he fully deserves the success he is getting!”

Well done Jake, keep it up!
