Our Easter Football Camps Are More than Just Football

By May 20, 2021News

Easter saw an abundance of football activities taking place on our holiday camps and it was great to see so many young people out of the house, meeting friends and playing the sport many of us love. Our popular football camps were back at SGP Westfield, SGP Graves and Handsworth and we even had our biggest engagement of girls attending camps at all venues.

We also delivered two Premier League Kicks Healthy Holiday Camps at Springs Academy and the UMIX Centre supporting young people living in Sharrow, Manor and Arbourthorne.

Utilising funding from the Premier League and match funded by Sheffield City Council and the Holiday Activities and Food Funding, we delivered 8 days of football activities free of charge and provided every young person with a healthy meal each day.

But our camps are more than just football.

Young people attending our camp at UMIX planned and undertook a social action project to support their local community and decided to clean up the local area where they regularly play football by picking up litter, making the area a nicer place to go.

Katie Glossop, Participation & Inclusion Manager, commented,

“It’s great to see so many children and young people playing football during the Easter holidays and we know so many have missed being active and socialising with their peers. We also know many families have been significantly affected financially by the pandemic and it is great we can support young people with our Healthy Holidays Camps.”
